Your resume is read as text and compared against the requirement you paste in on two levels: an overall assessment of how well your experience fits the role, and a keyword pass that lists which terms from the requirement already appear in your resume and which are missing. The score is a 0-100 summary of that comparison — above 70 is a strong match, 45 to 69 partial, below 45 weak.
Most staffing firms and employers filter applications by keyword before a person reads them, so a resume that never uses the wording in the job description can be screened out even when the underlying experience is a good fit. The point is not to add skills you do not have — it is to make sure the ones you do have are described in the words the screener is searching for.
